“The job was performed in a good and safe way in just some hours, and we could sail during early evening”
Niklas Andersson
Technical Manager, Rederi AB Veritas Tankers

The P&C vessel M/T Astina, owned by Rederi AB Veritas Tankers, experienced a severe pump failure during discharge in Halmstad.

During the stay in Halmstad, the vessel crew was guided on how to troubleshoot on the failure, directly from Denmark by one of the SVANEHØJs superintendents. The troubleshooting showed that failure was caused by a broken drive shaft or a broken coupling between drive shafts.

A Svanehøj service engineer was rescheduled to pas Halmstad on his way to a job in Poland.

As the vessel had a tight schedule, the stay in Halmstad was limited to 5 hours. Within this timeframe, the pump was lifted and investigated. The failure was located to a broken shaft coupling which was replaced together with a long drive shaft.

“We were able to continue with the discharge operation in a safe way and with just some hours behind schedule“.

Furthermore, the pump was completely refitted with new bearings, shaft seals, wear rings and soft parts before mounting the pumps back in the tank, all within a 5 hours timeframe.
