Svanehoj Concludes 2022–2025 ESG Strategy Period
Svanehoj’s newly published ”ESG Highlights 2025” marks the conclusion of the company’s four-year Engage to Sustain strategy period. The report documents progress across emissions, safety, innovation, and employee development and shows how ESG has become increasingly embedded in everyday business decisions.
When Svanehoj introduced ESG as part of its company strategy in 2022, the focus was on defining targets, establishing frameworks, and creating a common direction.
Four years later, ESG is no longer treated as a separate agenda. It has become part of how Svanehoj develops products, optimizes operations, builds its organization, and makes decisions across the business.
“Over the past four years, ESG has moved from being a separate strategic initiative to becoming part of how we develop products, run our operations, and build our organization. The next step is to scale what works across our growing global business and focus our efforts where we can create the greatest impact,” says Elisabeth Kjær Aarup, Head of Sustainability and Process Governance, at Svanehoj.
Emissions target exceeded
One of the main objectives of the strategy period was to reduce Svanehoj’s relative Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions intensity per revenue by 50% compared with the 2021 baseline.
By the end of 2025, the reduction had reached 61%, exceeding the target by a wide margin. The development reflects continued investments in energy efficiency, lean processes, automation, and a more focused manufacturing setup, enabling Svanehoj to grow the business while using energy and resources more efficiently.
During the strategy period, Svanehoj also established a Scope 3 emissions baseline, which showed that the majority of the company’s total emissions occur in the use of sold products. This underlines the importance of continuing to improve product efficiency and developing technologies that support the transition towards cleaner marine fuels and energy infrastructure.
Strengthening safety across a growing organization
Svanehoj has grown significantly since 2022, both organically and through acquisitions. This development has increased the importance of maintaining a consistent approach to safety, leadership, employee development, and organizational culture across locations.
Although the target of zero health and safety incidents was not fully achieved, the number of recordable injuries was reduced from 11 in 2022 to 2 in 2025. No fatal injuries occurred during the strategy period.
Safety has also become more deeply integrated into everyday operations through strengthened procedures, targeted training, systematic reporting, and the Accept Only Zero mindset introduced as part of ITT.
New innovative products support the energy transition
Throughout the strategy period, more than 95% of Svanehoj’s R&D investments supported the company’s Powering a Better Future mindset. At the same time, total investments in research and development increased significantly, contributing to the introduction of five new products between 2022 and 2025. These include solutions for LNG and ammonia fuel systems, liquefied-gas storage, and marine engine rooms.
The investments reflect the need for a safer, cleaner, and more flexible energy infrastructure. In an increasingly uncertain geopolitical landscape, energy security and access to diversified energy supplies have also become more important. This development further strengthens the relevance of Svanehoj’s technologies and expertise, particularly within LNG and other liquefied gases.
Investing in leadership and employee development
As Svanehoj has grown into a larger and more global organization, leadership development, onboarding, knowledge sharing, and employee retention have become increasingly important.
In 2025, the company launched the Svanehoj Leadership Program for managers across the organization.
Going forward, we will focus on protecting and strengthening the characteristics that have contributed to Svanehoj’s development: engagement, accountability, strong leadership, and employees who take pride in their work.
Building towards 2030
The conclusion of the 2022–2025 strategy period does not represent a change in direction. At Svanehoj, we will continue to invest in technologies and capabilities that support cleaner marine fuels, secure energy infrastructure, responsible growth, and a safe and engaging workplace.
An updated double materiality assessment will provide the foundation for the next phase of Svanehoj’s ESG work towards 2030. The new ESG targets will be presented in Q3 2026.
