From ship to shore:
Svanehoj targets cargo pump opportunities in the Benelux tank storage market
Following the acquisition of European Pump Solutions in the Netherlands last year, Svanehoj has gained direct access to the Benelux tank storage industry, opening opportunities to introduce reliable, service-friendly Deepwell Cargo Pumps to terminals preparing for future fuels.
For decades, Svanehoj’s Deepwell Cargo Pumps have enabled reliable and maintenance-friendly handling of liquefied gases on gas carriers and other specialized vessels. As energy storage terminals across Europe prepare to handle future fuels, the same deepwell pump technology could offer attractive advantages for land-based storage infrastructure.
Svanehoj has previously delivered Deepwell Cargo Pumps for terminal projects in the Nordics and is now turning its focus to the storage industry in Benelux following the acquisition of Dutch pump specialist European Pump Solutions (EPS) in early 2025. As the official Benelux distributor for Apollo, Bornemann, and Goulds Pumps, the new Svanehoj EPS provides a strong foundation for bringing the Svanehoj pump portfolio to the regional storage market.
- The Benelux market is very relationship-driven. With Svanehoj EPS, we have gained a strong local presence and long-standing industry connections that help us expand the Svanehoj business in the region and access opportunities in the storage sector that were previously out of reach, says Frank Hansen, Director, Svanehoj EPS.
Building a stronger footprint
Benelux is one of the world’s most important hubs for tank storage and energy logistics. Major ports such as Rotterdam and Antwerp serve as key gateways for energy imports and distribution across Europe, supported by millions of cubic meters of storage capacity.
At the same time, the region is rapidly expanding its infrastructure to accommodate LNG and future fuels. For Svanehoj, the integration of Svanehoj EPS opens new and attractive opportunities in this market.
- Many of the terminal operators we work with in the Benelux region are preparing their facilities for the future. These are well-established companies that are now adapting their infrastructure to the energy transition. Svanehoj is well-positioned in the Benelux tanker segment. Our ambition is to introduce the Svanehoj portfolio more broadly in the regional market and build a stronger footprint among storage terminals, says Frank Hansen.
More than 14,500 cargo pumps delivered worldwide
Since the 1960s, Svanehoj’s deepwell pump technology has been fundamental to marine cargo operations. With more than 15,000 cargo pumps delivered worldwide, the Svanehoj Deepwell Cargo Pump is the market-leading solution for LNG, LPG, ethane, ammonia, and CO₂ carrier segments.
Over the years, Svanehoj’s deepwell technology has proven highly advantageous for liquefied gas handling. The pump’s unique hydraulic design ensures a low NPSHr, significantly reducing the risk of cavitation and dry ice formation during operation.
Operational safety is further supported by an automatic pressurized shaft sealing system with double mechanical seals, ensuring reliable containment of cryogenic cargo during operation. The robust and flexible deepwell pump platform is designed to handle a wide range of liquefied gases — including LNG, LPG, ammonia, ethane, ethylene, and CO₂ — without requiring component changes, making it suitable for a broad spectrum of applications.
