Svanehoj to deliver tank gauging systems for large-scale LNG terminal project in the US

Given the increasing global demand for LNG, reliable and secure storage is essential. To ensure the operational safety, Svanehoj's tank monitoring systems have been selected for Venture Global LNG’s new CP2 LNG export terminal in Louisiana, US.

CB&I, the world’s leading designer and builder of storage facilities, tanks, and terminals, has chosen Svanehoj to supply tank gauging systems for four full-containment LNG storage tanks. CB&I is executing the tank scope as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the project, underlining Svanehoj’s role as a trusted safety equipment supplier on high-profile LNG infrastructure.

The CP2 LNG terminal is developed, owned, and will be operated by Venture Global. Located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, the facility will include four 200,000 m³ full-containment LNG storage tanks forming part of a large-scale LNG export terminal. The project represents a significant expansion of Venture Global’s LNG portfolio and long-term investment in reliable storage infrastructure.

Svanehoj’s equipment follows previous successful collaborations with both CB&I and Venture Global, including deliveries to the Calcasieu Pass LNG terminal and the Plaquemines LNG terminal, both in Louisiana. These projects have established Svanehoj as a reliable partner for tank gauging and instrumentation solutions in complex LNG environments.

Comprehensive monitoring of LNG storage conditions

For the new CP2 LNG terminal, Svanehoj will deliver a complete tank gauging and monitoring solution, providing operators with real-time insight into LNG storage conditions. The system supports early detection of safety risks, enables preventive action, and contributes to reliable and efficient terminal operations.

The supplied equipment includes:

·      Servo level gauges for continuous monitoring of LNG level variations

·      Temperature sensors to track average LNG temperature

·      LTD gauges to monitor LNG density and stratification

·      A central system for data rollover prediction and alarm handling

These capabilities allow operators to proactively manage risks, minimize operational disruptions, and maintain safe storage conditions.

Designed for safety and decision support in cryogenic environments

Due to the continuous evaporation (BOG), LNG stored in large full-containment tanks is subject to continuous changes in temperature, density, and composition. Without accurate, real-time monitoring, these variations can develop into stratification conditions that pose operational and safety risks.

Svanehoj’s instrumentation and solutions are engineered for reliable operation under cryogenic conditions, giving operators actionable data for safe tank management. By combining precise measurements with centralized data handling, the system supports informed decision-making, reduces operational risk, and ensures stable LNG storage.

Continued collaboration on LNG tank instrumentation

The CP2 LNG terminal marks the latest milestone in Svanehoj’s ongoing cooperation with CB&I and Venture Global. Previous deliveries include tank gauging systems for:

·      Calcasieu Pass LNG terminal – two 200,000 m³ full-containment LNG storage tanks

·      Plaquemines LNG terminal – four 200,000 m³ full-containment LNG storage tanks

These projects underscore Svanehoj’s long-standing experience in LNG tank instrumentation and its support for major LNG export facilities in the United States.
