Exactly one year ago, I expressed in this column that, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had a lot to look forward to in 2021 at Svanehøj.
My expectations have been more than met. In fact, 2021 has been a fantastic year for Svanehøj. We have initiated a major modernisation of our production facilities, we have strengthened our organisation with a promising acquisition of Wärtsilä Tank Control Systems, and we have generated an order intake that breaks all previous records. Together, this makes an extremely solid foundation for the development of Svanehøj in the coming years.
Our remarkable results are based on the establishment of a new, independent Svanehøj through a change of ownership at the end of 2018. With a focused and skillfully executed strategy, we have taken the first major and vital steps towards transforming Svanehøj into a world-leading specialist developing and servicing critical equipment for handling all kinds of propellants. The key to success is our unique, patented fuel pump, which not only meets a current demand for solutions for LNG and LPG powered vessels. It is also fully compatible with future Power-to-X fuels such as green ammonia and methanol. In this way, we address shipowners’ uncertainties about the choice of technology with a future-proof solution.
We are ending an excellent 2021 with an impressive order intake of between DKK 750 and 800 million. This is twice as high as expected and 50% better than our best year to date in 2014. In addition to fuel pumps, growth is driven by cargo solutions for LPG carriers and P&C carriers, as well as a rapidly expanding service business. Our dedicated staff in Denmark, Singapore, Japan, and China have again this year done an exemplary job, for which I owe them a big thank you. You are the ones who make Svanehøj’s ambitious plans succeed.
We are heading into 2022 with a new strategy and a goal to double our turnover to DKK 1 billion within the next five years. It is very ambitious, but the green transition is gaining momentum in the marine industry, and at Svanehøj we have the skills to make our mark. This applies both to our core marine business and to new promising business areas such as Power-to-X and Carbon Capture & Storage. With our new business strategy, we are embarking on a new and exciting chapter in the history of Svanehøj. We have several exciting projects in the pipeline, which we look forward to sharing with you in the near future.
I wish all staff, customers, and business partners a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
