The green transition is about innovation and technology, but it is also about helping people make more sustainable choices in their everyday life.
As a part of its “Engage to Sustain” strategy, Svanehøj recently set up three EV charging points for the employees at the head office in Svenstrup, Aalborg. The idea started as a request from colleagues, who had challenges charging their electric cars because they live in apartments with limited access to charging points. From there, the idea gained momentum, as Svanehøj wanted to accommodate the wishes of the employees.
One of the facilitators of this project is Esben Vadstrup, who is Executive Business Partner at Svanehøj. He explains that according to Danish legislation, Svanehøj is allowed to sell electricity to its employees at prices below the European average and without being taxed. Thus, Svanehøj can both accommodate its employees and at the same time support its ESG strategy.
- Now implemented, we can already see the success, as the charging points are used frequently from early morning to noon, explains Esben Vadstrup.
Since installed before the summer, the number of active users has increased to over 20, while there have been more than 600 charges and 5.500 kWh used.
Engage to Sustain
The newly installed EV charging points are an example of how Svanehøj works to include its employees in the ESG work. Svanehøj's sustainability strategy, "Engage to Sustain", is based on the belief that people are the basis for change. From management to production.
- To facilitate this sort of ‘sustainable thinking’ throughout our company, we must come up with initiatives to engage people. We want to build a culture where people reflect on how they can help create value for the company in the green transition, explains Anette Hurup, Chief Communications Officer at Svanehøj.
Svanehøj has also initiated an internal sustainability training program for all employees based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. As part of the program, a corps of ambassadors are appointed to accommodate the green transition among the employees. The purpose of the ambassador corps is to facilitate the transition to a more sustainable company and ensure employer involvement.
