ESG ambassadors highlight the Sustainable Development Goals at Svanehøj
It requires support from the entire organization to transform an ambitious ESG strategy into actual results. Meet two of the employees who will be promoting the sustainable agenda as ESG ambassadors at Svanehøj.
At Svanehøj, an ESG ambassador corps of 15 colleagues helps to ensure that sustainable development and behaviour become top of mind at all levels of the organization.
The common denominator for the 15 colleagues is that they are highly motivated to take responsibility. Not only because of the climate but also the recognition that a strong ESG profile is important for Svanehøj as a company.
- We are looking into a market which is beginning to have sustainability as a requirement in line with price, quality, delivery time, and service. In the ambassador corps, our efforts are ensuring workplaces at Svanehøj in the future in the sense that sustainability is becoming an essential part of our basis of existence, says Mikkel Bülow Bundgaard Sørensen (Head of Production).
For Anne Mogensbæk Steen (Head of Supply Chain Planning), Svanehøj's focus on the energy transition is a great motivation. Through the ESG ambassador program, she can help drive the change.
- As an ESG ambassador, I can make a difference. I can continuously put our purpose into words, incite enthusiasm, and challenge the organization so that sustainability and the SDGs become top of mind for both my colleagues and me, says Anne Mogensbæk Steen.
Sustainability as a common agenda
The intention of the ESG ambassador program is to make sustainability a common agenda at Svanehøj. The 15 ambassadors are to gather and qualify ideas that promote the SDGs and the green transition.
The first idea to become a tangible initiative is carpooling. Svanehøj will – initially on a trial – make use of the app “Ta’ Med” from the Danish car owners association, FDM. This should make it easier for the employees to drive together.
- The change we want to create here at Svanehøj will only succeed if we each change our mindset. Personally, I have just started the journey and I am not nearly at the finish line yet. It is a transition that we must create together, says Anne Mogensbæk Steen, while Mikkel Bülow Bundgaard Sørensen adds:
- As an ESG ambassador, hopefully, I can act as a role model by ‘walking the talk’. It would make me proud if I can contribute to accelerating the green transition here at Svanehøj and raise the general attention towards sustainability, he says.
Concurrently with the ambassador program, Svanehøj educates over 100 employees on the five UN SDGs, which Svanehøj’s ESG strategy is based on. The five SDGs are: “Affordable and Clean Energy” (7), “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (8), “Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure” (9), “Responsible Consumption and Production” (12) and “Climate Action” (13).
