Connecting academic learning with real industrial insight

Meet Global Business Engineering student Magnus Højbjerg, whose university project combines academic methods with real-world case material from Svanehoj. For Svanehoj, student project collaborations are a way to support learning, share industry insights and strengthen the ties between academia and industry.

Magnus studies Global Business Engineering at Aalborg University and is currently spending the semester at the National University of Singapore as part of an international study program. During his stay, he is working on a university project based on case material provided by Svanehoj.

The project reflects the interdisciplinary focus of Magnus’ degree, which combines engineering, business, and analytical methods.

“When I explain my education, I usually say that it is about learning how to optimize things; processes, projects, or other parts of a company”, Magnus says.

Understanding production through data
In his project, Magnus uses production data and process insight from Svanehoj as the basis for academic analysis. The aim is to explore how data can provide a clearer understanding of how production flow compares with the original plan.

The project examines the relationship between selected data points in the production process. Magnus is also exploring how a specific product line fits into the wider production flow and supply chain.

Svanehoj supports the project by providing relevant case material and professional perspectives, creating a foundation for learning, analysis, and knowledge exchange.

“University collaborations bring different perspectives together. Students contribute curiosity, new methods, and fresh academic perspectives, while we can share real-world cases and data. For us, it is also an opportunity to support learning and strengthen the dialogue between education and industry”, says Janne Kærvig, Senior PMO Specialist at Svanehoj.

Learning in an international setting
During his semester in Singapore, Magnus has visited Svanehoj’s Singapore site. Meeting the local Svanehoj employees and seeing the production setting up close has given him first-hand insight into the environment behind the data used in his project, as well as a broader understanding of how Svanehoj operates across countries, cultures, and functions.

For Janne Kærvig, the personal and cultural dimension is an equally important part of an international study experience.

“When young people spend time abroad, meet new cultures, and build international relationships, they develop not only their academic understanding but also their human and cultural perspective. That is why it is important for young talents to develop a global outlook early in their careers”, Janne says.

Beyond supporting individual projects, university collaborations allow Svanehoj to give students insight into how their academic knowledge can be applied to real-world industrial challenges in an international environment.
