Fails-safe design
The fail-safe design ensures that vertical tubes in the shaft can be isolated below ground level by actuating emergency shutdown valves. These are safety valves that are usually closed by the mechanical action of a spring and opened with the hydraulic pressure of oil pressurised from control panels.
Complying with normal operating situations
The valves are designed to comply with the normal operating and emergency situations of an underground LPG storage. The main valve’s function is to close by an ESD (Emergency Shut-Down) action. In the event of an oil feeding line rupture or casing leakage (above the plug), 06156 valves are designed to be forced opened by a water column topped by pressurised nitrogen in the shaft, although for safety purposes they remain closed, retaining a minimum level of water in the shaft.
